The Emerald Sanctuary

Consequences

Illuminated by a car's headlights,
A lone silhouette hunched beneath a tree,
Face ashen, pale, clothes drenched by pouring rain,
Teardrops cascading down the cheek adding
To the wetness, wire-rimmed glasses sitting
In the lap, sobs heard far away, and one
Pervading thought: What have I done to her?
