Standing on the shore,
Watching the waves lap
Onto the sand, I
See couples sitting
Together holding
Hands and talking and
Laughing, and at first,
I thought I would not
Be alone when I
Came to this place, but,
Now, I find that my
Companion would be
Better with someone
Else, and so, with my
Heart breaking, I tell
Her to go be with
Him, and I let her
Be happy, but I
Also see only
Darkness and sorrow
Where joy's light once shone.
