Why is it that I cannot
Find it within me to hope?
The future is not written,
Her feelings have not been set
In stone yet, and there is still
A chance that I shall triumph,
That my heart has not set me
On a path which will end in
Deep sorrow and loneliness.
I should be able to dream
Of she and I being happy
Together, I should find it
Possible to hope for a
Wonderful future, but I
Cannot. Why have I lost heart?
To achieve that which cannot
Be is my mission, to bring
About the impossible
Is within my power. Yet,
I cannot hope. Why does this
Seem so much like the end of
My happiness and my joy in
Life? Why do I only see
Dismal gray when I should see
Brilliant color? Why can
I not even believe that
Someone can perhaps love me?
